Penguin Counter

The fact that there is constantly a small population of people in the Antarctic is not well known. These people keep an eye on topics like the weather, the ice shelf, and penguins from several research sites. Because even those folks occasionally prefer to order things from Amazon, there is only one post office on the entire continent.

The UK Antarctic Heritage Trust, which runs the post office, was looking for a new employee in April 2022. However, the task went beyond merely sorting the 1,000–4,000 residents' mail. The job description also includes what may be the biggest obligation of any position on the continent: counting penguins. Caring for historical relics is another duty that must be performed.

If you think counting the penguins will be simple, you should know that there are about 20 million of the birds there, so you're likely to miss some or, at the very least, count a few of them twice. Of course, you only need to count the Gentoo colony nearby; you don't need to count every penguin. Cleaning up after penguins, who are not famed for their cleanliness, is also a part of the job. Additionally, there isn't any running water there since, of course, there isn't any. But even if nothing else, it offers the potential for an amazing story.
