Renesas Technology, the consolidated entity of the semiconductor businesses of Hitachi and Mitsubishi, excluding their dynamic random-access memory businesses, was first established in 2002 as Renesas Electronics Corporation, a Japanese semiconductor manufacturer with headquarters in Tokyo, Japan. NEC Electronics merged with this entity in 2010, leading to a slight change in the company name and logo to what they are now.

Renesas
was one of the six biggest semiconductor firms in the world from the 2000s to the early 2010s. As of 2022, it was the top provider of microcontrollers and the third-largest automotive semiconductor firm in the world. The company is also active in the markets for memory products, SoCs, and analog and mixed-signal integrated circuits.

Renesas Electronics reported a total revenue (TTM) of $11.01 billion in its most recent financial statements.
