Santorini

Santorini is known as a famous tourist location and one of the largest volcanic eruptions places in recorded history which occurred about 3,600 years ago at the height of the Minoan civilization. The most populous area of this municipality is the islands Santorini and Therasia, and the uninhabited islands of Nea Kameni, Palaia Kameni, Aspronisi, and Christiana.

To fully enjoy the charm of Santorini, it takes a few days to explore all the beautiful places on this island. First, you can relax gently on colorful beaches, the unique black and red sands will make a memorable visit. Next up, you indulge in the archaeological delights at the impressively preserved Ancient Akrotiri or hike to Ancient Thera to see the ruins of three empires, including the Romans.

Alternatively, couples can walk the Fira to Oia route, which is a 6-mile, one-way walk that passes through the towns of Fira, Firostefani, Imerovigli, and Oia. Along the way, you can stop at towns overlooking the sea or stop at Sharos Rock, which is a famous headland that is very convenient to watch the sunset. Around it, there are also churches scattered throughout, such as the blue-domed St. Gerasimos Church, which offers excellent views of the volcano. Once you hit Oia, you'll find Byzantine castle ruins open for exploration.
