When she was expecting her first child in 2012, the UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and her ex-Gerard Pique asked fans to donate to UNICEF in lieu of a baby shower registry. In 2011, she was appointed by US President Barack Obama to the President's Advisory Committee on Excellence in Education for Hispanics/Portuguese – a group of four that will provide advice to the President and Secretary of Education Arne Duncan. In 2014, she was ranked 58th on Forbes magazine's list of the most powerful women.
