Shore

One of the best surf clothing brands in the UK is Shore. Simon Crawford, at 23 years old, founded Shore in East Wittering, West Sussex, in 1982. Simon, who loved water sports, set up a little cabin at the end of Shore Road. It cost him £500, and its main purpose was to provide windsurfing gear for the nearby beach to both locals and tourists.

Shore outgrew its modest beginnings and moved into a storefront on the major street in the community by 1984. With a specific emphasis on wetsuits, Shore began reinvesting revenues back into the company as sales and rentals began to increase year over year.

When a 300-square-foot former Saab dealership went up for sale in 1993, Shore saw its big break. Simon seized the chance to expand his wetsuit business, which was growing all the time. As e-commerce gained traction, Shore increased its efforts and launched shore.co.uk. Since then, the company has grown steadily, establishing itself as a genuine UK surf brand with an equally inspiring rags-to-riches tale.
