Sky Sports
The most popular subscription sports brand in the UK and Ireland is Sky Sports, a collection of British sports channels run by the satellite pay television firm Sky Group (a part of Comcast). Since 1991, it has significantly contributed to the growing commercialization of British sport. It has also occasionally had a significant impact on the organizational changes made to the sports it broadcasts, most notably when it encouraged the Premier League to split from the Football League in 1992.
In addition to the standard Sky subscription, a premium package with Sky Sports Main Event, Premier League, Football, Cricket, Golf, F1, Action, and Arena is also offered. Nearly all satellite, cable, and IPTV broadcasting systems in the United Kingdom and Ireland also provide these services as premium channels. The base packages all include Sky Sports News, Sky Sports Racing, and Sky Sports Mix. Jonathan Licht is in charge of running the Sky Sports network.
Sky is the only owner of the rights in the United Kingdom and Ireland for a variety of sports, most notably the ones below. Also, they broadcast a wide variety of other sports. The FA Cup, the US Open tennis tournament, and NFL American football were among the sporting events covered by the BSB Sports Channel. Several of the rights packages purchased by the BSB Sports Channel, including those for the FA Cup, Wimbledon, and Test cricket, were done so in conjunction with the BBC. Exclusive live coverage of the English Football League and EFL Cup is presented by Sky Sports. Up to 2023–24, Sky will broadcast 148 games from the Championship, League One, League Two, EFL Cup, and EFL Trophy. The hosts of the EFL broadcast are David Prutton and Michelle Owen.
Sky Sports has a monthly starting price of £18 but requires other subscriptions to be active, so in practice, you'll pay at least £41. With an 18-month commitment, this gives you access to Sky Sports through satellite on your TV. This also implies that you may use Sky Go to stream content to other devices via Wi-Fi or the network connection on your smartphone.
