SLS South Beach Hotel
The ultra-stylish (and ultra-expensive) SLS Beverly Hills is a design haven with tons of luxury and visual stimulation. Although SLS has the sense of a small boutique hotel, the idea was developed by nightlife entrepreneur Sam Nazarian and has since been adopted by other prestigious cities including Miami and Las Vegas. SLS, which stands for "Style, Luxury, Service," aims to feel cozy and seductive while really serving a large number of diners and walk-ins.
The luxurious on-site Ciel Spa provides all of the bathroom amenities, and the suites have balconies and patios as well as free-standing spas. The interiors were animated by Philippe Starck, and the results are difficult to overlook. There are amusing details like metallic-print furniture and pool tables that are put in the center of hallways, in addition to the ubiquitous mirrors that cover every surface in the guest rooms (this may or may not be your idea of fun). While Starck's oversaturated, chaotic design can come off as heavy-handed, it also results in excellent space utilization. Everywhere you look, there is a cozy spot where you can relax with a drink and take in all the shiny decorations.
