Sonder Duane Street

The Duane Street Hotel, which is on a busy corner, makes a statement about its location with steel signage above the door and a welcome mat bearing the hotel's logo in large block letters. A small front desk area is located right inside the entrance, where staff members check guests in and help with luggage, special requests, and local recommendations. Couples from all over the world, particularly those from Europe, as well as business travelers who prefer to stay close to downtown offices are attracted to the hotel.

Despite being small, the lobby opens to a welcoming seating area with contemporary, mid-century style furniture. A group of producers may be planning a meeting in this space. Additionally, a romantic couple may be enjoying coffee and reading the Wall Street Journal (lobby copies are free). This lounge area, which connects to the restaurant and has a few low tables and a large communal table that seats eight people, makes excellent use of the available space. In the afternoons, guests are typically given water and cookies. Monday through Thursday, this space is transformed into a happy hour reception where guests can enjoy a glass of wine or beer with the staff.
