Players are given the options of three canonical races during character creation: Federation, Klingon, or Romulan. All of these races have their own intrinsic combination of racial characteristics. Even better, gamers may design their own species as well. Then, they can explore renowned places from the famous Star Trek series, including Deep Space Nine, Starfleet Academy, and The First Capital of Qo'nos, among others. Offline advancement is also possible via the Duty Cop System (however, it is optional).

Also, Star Trek Online boasts a skill-based craft system that entails the collection of different atoms or data samples from around the cosmos. Players may then construct different tools to aid them in their tasks, using these elements and data samples. Gamers also have access to a broader assortment of more powerful goods as their craft expertise improves over time. Most things in the game may be enhanced in terms of level and rarity, and there is also the option to make Epic-level weapons.
