Sukkot Festival
The Sukkot festival is known as the Feast of Tabernacles and is generally observed in September. It is based on a Biblical event and is one of the three festivals where people are obligated to attend pilgrimage sites. It is a week-long holiday that begins on Shabbat. The Sukkot Festival is one of the most popular festivals in Israel that you should not miss.
Sukkot is the only Jewish festival whose date does not appear to commemorate a historical event. The Torah gives it two names: Chag HaAsif ("Harvest Festival") and Chag HaSukkot ("Festival of Booths"), each indicating a different cause for the celebration. Crops in Israel grow in the winter and are ready for harvest in late April. Some of them are left in the field to dry for several months before being harvested in the early fall. Chag HaAsif is a time to show gratitude for this blessing.
