Swami Dayananda Ashram
Swami Dayananda Ashram in Rishikesh was founded in the 1960s by Swami Dayananda Saraswati, a worldwide recognized Vedanta teacher and outstanding Sanskrit scholar. The Ashram is located on the banks of the Holy Ganga in a quiet neighborhood near the airport and rail station. Dehradun Airport is 21 kilometers distant, and the rail station is three kilometers away.
It is a one-of-a-kind center for studying Vedanta and Sanskrit in English while adhering to the old teaching tradition (Sampradaya). It is known as Arsha Vidya Pitham, which translates as a learning center based on the teachings of ancient rishis. The selected texts on Vedanta and supplementary texts are taught here, together with Paninian-style Sanskrit grammar and Vedic chantings presented during courses.
Furthermore, Arsha Vidya Teachers who come to their students for specific periods of time and offer classes hold frequent retreats on Vedanta, Yoga, and other disciplines throughout the year.
Swami Dayananda Ashram is nestled within two and a half acres of groomed gardens and well-established trees in a tranquil location, yet it is only a ten-minute walk from the main Rishikesh Market and the busy markets of Ram Jhula. More than 150 rooms, all with attached bathrooms, hot water, and 24-hour electricity, provide four-star lodging for tourists and course students.
There is an extensive library with over 5000 titles on diverse themes such as Vedanta, Sanskrit Grammar, Indian and Western Philosophy, Religion, and Yoga, as well as Pujya Sri Swamiji's personal collections.
Aside from one closed and one open hall for residents and guests furnished with dining tables and chairs, the modern dining complex has another hall for conducting sadhu-feeding for more than 200 people.
