The Complete Guide to SAT Reading
This SAT prep book, as the title, says, only concentrates on the Reading section of the exam. A full chapter is devoted to deconstructing the structure and content of each of the nine different types of critical reading questions. It is a compilation of sample reading passages and practice questions. Additionally, 300 brand-new in-depth explanations for practice questions have been incorporated in the 5th edition.
Erica Meltzer, the book's author, decided not to include any practice exams because she wanted to focus on teaching students how to approach, prepare for, and effectively complete the SAT's critical reading section. Instead, she advises pupils to use the exams included in the College Board's Official SAT Study Guide, 2020.
Highlights:
- Meltzer leaves nothing out when it comes to information needed to understand the details of the critical reading test, allowing students who struggle with this portion of the test to likely improve their scores.
- The Critical Reader contains specific information about more obscure concepts on the Reading test such as deciphering paired passages and approaching passages with graphs and charts.
- Meltzer includes 2 valuable indexes that organize the reading questions on all practice SAT tests found in the Official SAT Study Guide, 2020: one by category and one by test. This resource helps students identify the types of questions they are missing and focus on strategies to improve in those areas.
