The Elements of Style
William Strunk Jr. was a Cornell University English professor and the author of The Elements of Style (1918). After being revised and expanded by his former student E. B. White, it became a highly influential guide to English usage in the late twentieth century, popularly known as Strunk & White.
Professor Strunk's class at Cornell was attended by E. B. White, who used "the little book" for himself. White edited the 1959 and 1972 editions of The Elements of Style after being commissioned by Macmillan to rewrite Strunk's book.
