The London Library
As one of the biggest lending libraries in the world (and one of the best libraries in London), the London Library boasts an extraordinary assortment of more than one million volumes and a fascinating history. Numerous writers, such as Conan Doyle (who penned the famous series 'Sherlock Holmes'), or Joseph Conrad (the author behind 'Heart of Darkness' and 'The Secret Agent'), have worked in the Lecture Room of the London Library, which was inaugurated by Virginia Woolf's father in 1896.
In addition, the tower, which overlooks St. James's Square, has magnificent book stacks and pleasant study and relaxation areas for library patrons. There are about one million volumes from the 18th century to the present day, elegantly displayed over 17 kilometers of shelves. Even better, there is a Writer's Room inside the facility, which is one of the most popular parts of the library and can accommodate up to 26 readers at once.
