The National Stock Exchange (NSE) was founded in 1992 and started trading in 1994. The NSE is India's largest financial market and the fourth largest market by trading volume and is also under the ownership of several prime Financial Institutions, Banks, and Insurance companies.

NSE has a total market capitalization of more than US$3.48 trillion, making it the world's 9th-largest stock exchange as of September 2021. The NSDL's security, combined with the transparency, lower transaction prices, and efficiency that NSE offered, greatly increased the attractiveness of the Indian stock market to domestic and international investors.
