George Samuel Clason, commonly known as George S. Clason, was born and died in Louisiana, Missouri. He was a soldier, merchant, and writer in his eighty-two years. During the Spanish-American War, he served in the United States Army. George Clason is most known for authoring a series of instructional pamphlets on how to be frugal and achieve financial success. He began composing the booklets in 1926, based on parables set in ancient Babylon. The parables were distributed by banks and insurance companies, and the most renowned ones were gathered into the book The Richest Man in Babylon. The Richest Man in Babylon was renamed after Clason's novel "Gold Ahead."
