The Safest Country in Africa For Solo Travellers
Rwanda has been named the sixth safest country in the world and the safest country in Africa for solo travelers. The top-ranking nation was Switzerland, while the only other nation outside of Europe to appear in the top 10 safest nations was Japan, which came in third. Many still identify Rwanda with the horrific slaughter that occurred there in 1994. However, the nation has long been acknowledged as one of the safest in Africa. By creating capable and experienced security organizations, Rwanda has made significant investments in its national security. Tourists should not be concerned about Kigali, the country's capital, thanks to the low crime rate.
In a 2018 Gallup Global Law and Order research, 88% of Rwandans reported feeling safe walking alone at night, matching the percentages from Finland, Slovenia, and Tajikistan. Although homosexuality is legal in Rwanda and there are several gay-friendly establishments, there is still a lack of widespread acceptance, thus LGBTQ+ individuals should be aware of any unspoken taboos.
