The Vanishing Act
The Vanishing Act is a genre-bending globe-trotting thriller that follows Augie Eckhart, a 1930s German theater artist trying to recreate a stage act that caused an entire audience to vanish. Augie's egotistic and prickly personality conflicts with a diverse ensemble of characters, including a conman with a flowing background, an unfortunate-named mechanical engineer, a man so perfect he coils back around to being the worst, and a narrator who is sick of Augie's nonsense.
The fact that this program is done makes it a wonderful pleasing package of laughter and antics. If you want a period piece dismal absurdist comedic mystery drama set around the advent of fascism in the 1930s that touches on so many various genres that some of them could be called spoilers, then this is the show for you.
