Thule Air Base

Thule Air Base is the United States of America's northernmost military base, located more than 1100 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle and nearly 1500 kilometers from the North Pole. It is situated in Greenland's easternmost region. Aside from its military function, the installation is situated in a portion of Earth's paradise. The region is the only spot on Earth where three glaciers meet, not to mention the breathtaking sights of icebergs and arctic creatures. This peculiar military base's primary duty is to conduct missile warning activities.

It also deals with general space control at the same time. Aside from being the United States' northernmost outpost, it is also the world's northernmost port. Every year, it sees over 3,000 flights. After WWII, the Americans realized the need for a more comprehensive and advanced center in the area, particularly when it came to transporting atomic weapons. The site became a key strategic center for the United States in just a few years. It did not, however, have a clear owner either the United States of America or Denmark. Finally, NATO stepped in and requested that the new base be included in the NATO defense system, leaving the Americans and the Danes to cope with the aftermath.

In 1951, the official construction of a modern military installation began. The builders required two years to complete it due to the harsh weather conditions and the unsuitable site. Until the headquarters were ready, they lived on the ships that delivered them. It is stated that the construction of this base was at least as difficult as the Panama Canal.
