Tibetan Mastiff
Tibetan Mastiffs are one of the world's largest dog breeds and are frequently misidentified as fluffy bears. They were originally bred as guard dogs, capable of protecting sheep from any threat, including wolves, leopards, and bears. Their thick fur coats allow them to withstand even the coldest temperatures. A Tibetan Mastiff has become one of the most expensive pets in the world at $1,500,000.
This breed is less common today due to the high cost of ownership. They are prone to many health conditions, including hip dysplasia, hypothyroidism, and eye anomalies, in addition to eating a lot and requiring a lot of grooming.
Most of the time, these dogs can be purchased for a couple thousand dollars, but finding a true-blooded Tibetan Mastiff is extremely difficult. The most expensive dog in 2011 was sold for $1.5 million. Big Splash, an 11-month-old Tibetan Mastiff, was up for auction in China.
