Universidad de la Repblica (University of the Republic), ranked first among the best universities in Uruguay, founded in 1833, is a non-profit public higher-education institution located in the metropolitan environment of Montevideo (population range of 1,000,000-5,000,000 inhabitants). Salto, Paysand, Tacuarembó, Rivera, Maldonado, Rocha, Cerro Largo, Treinta y Tres are all localities where this university maintains a branch campus.
