University of Guam (Chamorro: Unibetsedt Guhan) (U.O.G.) is in 1st place on the list of the best universities in Guam. This is a public land-grant university located in Mangilao, Guam. It is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and offers thirty-four undergraduate degree programs and eleven master's degree programs. 94 percent of the university's 3,387 students are Asian-Pacific Islander, and nearly 72 percent are full-time (fall 2012 figures). A full-time faculty of approximately 180 people supports the university's mission of "Ina, Diskubre, Setbe," which translates to "To Enlighten, Discover, and Serve."


The University of Guam began in 1952 as the Territorial College of Guam, a two-year teacher-training school established by Governor Carlton Skinner, and was later expanded to a four-year teaching school by Maryly Van Leer Peck. The college relocated to its current location in Mangilao's central business district in 1960. The college was accredited as a four-year degree-granting institution in 1965. By 1968, enrollment had risen to 1,800 students, with a staff of more than 130 people. In 1972, the United States Congress designated it as a land grant institution.
