University of Massachusetts Amherst
The University of Massachusetts Amherst is located in Boston, Massachusetts. This is a public research institution in Amherst, Massachusetts, and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts' only public land-grant university. It is the flagship and largest campus in the University of Massachusetts system, as well as the first formed, having been founded in 1863 as an agricultural institution. It is also a member of the Five College Consortium, which includes Amherst College, Smith College, Mount Holyoke College, and Hampshire College, as well as four additional colleges in the Pioneer Valley. Approximately 30,000 students attend UMass Amherst each year, including around 1,300 faculty members. It is the state's largest university by campus size and the state's second-largest university by enrollment, after Boston University and before Harvard University.
The university offers 109 undergraduate, 77 master's, and 48 doctoral degrees. Programs are organized by a group of nine schools and colleges. The University of Massachusetts Amherst is classified as an "R1: Doctoral Universities with Very High Research Activity".
