University of the South Pacific
The University of the South Pacific (USP) is a public research university with campuses in a dozen Oceanian countries. The university was founded in 1968 and is owned by the governments of 12 Pacific island countries: the Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Niue, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu. With nearly 30,000 students in 2017, USP is an international center for teaching and research on Pacific culture and environment.
The Tonga Campus is located on a beautiful 19-acre property adjacent to the Taufa'ahau road, accessible but quiet, and ideal for learning. It is located at 'Atele, in the village of Ha'ateiho, about 8 kilometers from central Nuku'alofa on the Tongatapu island. This campus is home to the USP Institute of Education and the PRIN Project under the Research Facility. The Ha'apai and Va'vau Groups also have USP centers.
Library tours are offered during Orientation week each semester and can be tailored to specific courses and academic programs. High schools and other institutions are also welcome to request a tour of the library, which necessitates a direct letter from the Principal to the Campus Director confirming the library's availability and readiness to accommodate the visit.
