Volcán Barú
The first one in Top 3 Highest Mountains in Panama that Toplist would like to introduce to you is Volcán Barú. The Volcán Barú (also known as Volcán de Chiriquí) is an active stratovolcano and Panama's tallest mountain, standing at 3,474 meters (11,398 feet). It is located about 35 kilometers (22 miles) off the coast of Costa Rica. It is also Central America's twelfth highest peak.
On a clear day, due to its height and the narrowness of Panama's isthmus, it is possible (though relatively rare) to see both the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea from Volcán Barú's peak.
At the base of Volcán Barú, the small town of Volcán sits on the remains of a massive lahar that appears to have breached the caldera. A small river has eroded the lahar, exposing an ancient forest beneath that is estimated to be 1000 years old.
The Volcán Barú is surrounded by fertile cool highlands drained by the Chiriquí Viejo and Caldera Rivers. Volcán and Cerro Punta are located on its western flank, while Boquete is located on its eastern flank.
The summit has seen the occasional hail or ice pellet fall, where the minimum temperature can drop below 0 °C (32 °F) and frost formation is common during the dry season. The peak is home to a large number of broadcast towers.
