Wafels & Dinges
Wafels & Dinges, a beloved food truck and dessert destination in New York City, was born out of a serendipitous encounter and a passion for sharing the delightful flavors of Belgian waffles.
In 2007, Thomas DeGeest decided to take a bold step. He purchased a food truck and named it "Wafels & Dinges," the latter word translating to "toppings" in Flemish. The concept was simple but brilliant: offer freshly made Belgian waffles served with various delectable toppings, from classic powdered sugar and Nutella to savory options like pulled pork and bacon. Their commitment to authenticity set Wafels & Dinges apart from the start. DeGeest imported pearl sugar, a key ingredient in Belgian waffle batter, directly from Belgium.
The food truck quickly gained a devoted following as New Yorkers and tourists alike flocked to savor the warm, crisp, and perfectly caramelized waffles that transported them to the streets of Brussels. The playful and welcoming atmosphere created by the friendly "dinges" ambassadors, known for their colorful costumes and enthusiastic service, added to the unique experience of enjoying a waffle from Wafels & Dinges.
As word of mouth spread and the lines at the truck grew longer, Wafels & Dinges expanded its offerings to include a variety of waffle-based treats, including ice cream and milkshakes. The success and charm of this Belgian waffle haven can be attributed not only to its mouthwatering creations but also to the passionate dedication of Thomas DeGeest to sharing his culinary heritage with the people of New York City.
