Woolworth Tower Residence, New York
Woolworth Tower Residence is the world's fourth most expensive penthouses, with $110 million. Cass Gilbert drew inspiration for the Woolworth Building, a 1913 Neo-Gothic masterpiece commissioned by retail magnate F.W. Woolworth, by traveling across Europe's ancient capitals. Even though the 792-foot tower is no longer the world's highest, it continues to inspire amazement and admiration.
Starting on the 29th level, the slender top half was turned into 32 luxury condominiums in 2018, with interiors designed by world-renowned architect Thierry W. Despont. Through bright terracotta recesses, arched windows stare out into the Downtown skyline. The broad setbacks have been transformed into sky-high courtyards with cupped tracery and copper finials. The former observatory and copper-clad pinnacle at the top now house a spectacular multi-level penthouse. The restored 50-foot basement pool, which Mr. Woolworth himself originally commissioned, is the most impressive of the amenities, which include a temperature-controlled wine cellar and tasting room, bike room, 29th floor Gilbert Lounge, and 30th-floor fitness center, hot tub, and sauna with changing rooms.
