Zellersee

In the Austrian Alps, there is a tiny freshwater lake named Zellersee. It gets its name from Zell am See, a settlement on a tiny delta sticking out into the lake. The lake has a length of 4 kilometers and a width of 1.5 kilometers. It is 750 meters above sea level and has a maximum depth of 73 meters.

In the summer, a large number of small mountain streams feed the lake, although only one of them empties into the Salzach. The lake is utilized for recreational boating in the summer. Although the water can be frigid, it is exceedingly clear and perfect for swimming or diving.

Visitors can rent small electric boats to explore and unwind on the lake despite the fact that combustion engines are not permitted there. Sailing, kitesurfing, and windsurfing are also popular sports. A portion of the lake's 19th-century promenade provides plenty of shelter in the heat and offers sweeping views of the water.

Wintertime lake freezing allows for ice skating and curling against the stunning snow-capped Alps as a backdrop. Don a pair of snowshoes and follow the routes around the lake as they lead deep into the snow-covered mountains and forests.
