Grim Fandango is one of the best adventure games because of the dialogue, characters, world, and inventiveness. The newly deceased must atone for whatever misdeeds they may have committed before making the perilous four-year voyage into the Ninth Underworld, which is set in the Mexican Land of the Dead, where everyone is a skeleton or a demon. It is a deftly created universe with elements of cinema noir and plenty of crime and corruption.

The game's protagonist, Manny Calavera, must attempt to save Mercedes Colomar, the woman he believes he wronged, one of the best fictional characters ever created. Glottis is a friendly, car-obsessed demon that would fit right in with the best Disney or Pixar films, while Manny is one of the adventure game's most effortlessly cool and endearing player characters.

Return to Monkey Island is the ideal contemporary ode to the point-and-click subgenre, while The Secret of Monkey Island redefined the genre and elevated LucasArts to the throne of the adventure game industry and Monkey Island 2 significantly outdid its predecessor.

One of the most appealing characters in videogames is the lovable loser Guybrush Threepwood. He has a noble motivation for wanting to become a swashbuckling pirate and woo governor Elaine Marley. The issue is that he is completely incompetent, has more confidence than skill, and is an expert at destroying lives.

With a sequel that has taken two decades in the works, Return to Monkey Island starts up where LeChuck's Revenge leaves off and offers closure to fans. The game's reviews astounded LucasFilm Games because they were so overwhelmingly good.

Broken Sword is still among the top adventure games on the PC because of the excellent writing and voice acting. It does, however, contain the iconic "goat puzzle," which many adventure games—including all four Broken Sword sequels—have subtly parodied since. Day of the Tentacle is one of the top adventure games available when it comes to puzzles. When you consider that the player is required to control three people during three different time periods, with their actions from one impacting the other, it is even more astonishing that it is never obtuse or malicious. As Doc Brown would say, you have to think in four dimensions, and it is a credit to Tim Schafer, Dave Grossman, and the rest of the team that this never feels overpowering.

Day of the Tentacle, the game to which it is a successor, contains the entirety of LucasArts' prior adventure, Maniac Mansion, as an Easter Egg. It is still incredibly funny, gloriously weird, and timeless lovely. Cyberpunk is the one button that every game can press to get our attention. We are putty in anyone's hands when you add that to an excellent original tale, the best UK adventure game studio, and artwork by renowned comic book artist Dave Gibbons (Watchmen). Happily, Beneath a Steel Sky, one of the best PC games available, already exists.

We are happy the project did not go as planned, even though Revolution founder Charles Cecil originally intended to adapt Watchmen with Gibbons' help. Instead, they worked together to create this time-tested point-and-click game. Beautiful pixel visuals, hand-drawn cutscenes, and the story of Robert Foster's attempts to flee dystopian Union City are all featured in this game. The gloomy setting, which thematically tackles societal tyranny and corruption, draws inspiration from films like Blade Runner, Judge Dredd, and Mad Max. There are fart jokes in this grim Orwellian nightmare.

What could have been a sad grind is instead turned into a thoroughly enjoyable point-and-click adventure game thanks to Revolution. It's one of the best adventure games out there because of the plot twists, brilliant character moments, great puzzles, and attractive world. There is also no cost to play it on GOG, so there is really no justification. Beyond a Steel Sky is a solid sequel that is worth reading if you like it.

Despite stiff competition, the outstanding first season of Telltale's most well-known series continues to be its best. The Wolf Among Us and Tales From The Borderlands both come close, but neither can match Lee and Clementine from The Walking Dead in terms of charisma. As they endure a barrage of tragedies and catastrophes, kind-hearted lawbreaker Lee and recently orphaned Clementine forge a passionately loyal friendship. Of course, the zombie apocalypse ranks first among these, but the goals of each survivor they encounter also have an impact on the two.

The Walking Dead: Season One is one of the best adventure games on PC because of Telltale's ability to make the player feel in control of the narrative despite the fact that everything is a smoke and mirrors show. Scenes can develop differently, people can live longer, and Lee can act in the most outrageous ways. The primary plot continues, but depending on who is in control of it, it can feel very differently. It is still considered a modern masterpiece of a point-and-click game just for the unexpected ending of Episode 4.

Night in the Woods is a difficult book to resist. One of the best adventure games ever created was created by Infinite Fall, who also included humor, small-town Americana, a spooky conspiracy, gorgeous graphics, a great music, and some of the most movingly realistic videogame sequences.

Night in the Woods addresses issues including depression, broken families, the economy, peer pressure, growing up, unemployment, escapism, and death, but does so in a lighthearted manner that keeps things from becoming bleak. Characters gently make fun of each other and engage in unsafe or stupid behavior to divert their attention. Although the story's main character, Mae Borowski, an anthropomorphic cat and college dropout, initially comes off as an entitled jerk, you will grow to adore her as she shares her true feelings. All of the characters are quotable and likeable.

Although it looks and plays like a platform game, there are no bosses to face off against, heads to jump on, points to rack up, or worlds to conquer. Instead, there are people to talk to, roads to take, music to listen to, and a realization that the globe we all live in is getting smaller. Therefore, better make the most of it.

Kentucky Route Zero is one of the most tranquil PC games thanks to its convoluted plot, bizarre scenery, and soothing country music. Every Wadjet Eye release since 2006's The Shivah has been worthwhile to play, even the ones they did not create themselves. All three books in the Blackwell series—Gemini Rue, Shardlight, and Primordia—are modern masterpieces, but Technobabylon by Technocrat is, in our opinion, the best of the lot.

The city of Newton is governed by Central, an AI that sees and manages everything with an unknowable goal in the year 2087. The internet has developed into the trance, an intoxicating virtual realm. The Mindjacker is a serial killer who kills inexplicably and with no consequences. Charlie Regis, Max Lao, and Trance junkie Latha Sesame are all assigned to the Mindjacker case. Each sheds light on a different aspect of the narrative, which brilliantly develops in this terrifyingly plausible universe.

In Life is Strange, creators Dontnod accomplished what seemed unattainable: they outdid Telltale. Life is Strange features meaningful decisions, a more attractive and expressive graphics engine, and—most importantly—a totally unique scenario.

Max Caulfield, the main character, is a senior in photography who uses vintage Polaroid cameras while everyone else is decked out in pricey top-of-the-line digital equipment. She has the power to turn back time, which makes her instantly likeable. The fact that this game-changing superpower is actually the least impressive aspect of Life is Strange is a testament to the writing abilities of the Dontnod team; The game belongs in the exclusive club of the best adventure games on PC because of Max's friendship with his former best friend Chloe and how they reconnected after Max ran out on that life.

You will sob. You will make poor decisions, and you'll make even more when you meet Sean and Daniel in Life is Strange 2; you'll go back in time and make a decision you regret in a totally different way. Some of the best adventure games have been created by Czech studio Amanita Design, including Machinarium, Botanicula, and their enduring Samorost series. Yet, their games are a little unique because there is no spoken dialogue at all in them. Instead, the story is told through symbols and sounds, and they are so painfully sweet. The balance between intelligent puzzle design, wonderfully odd aesthetics, and pure cuteness is perfect in Samorost 3.

In Samorost 3, a dog and an alien gnome reside on an asteroid. In his free time, he investigates the universe's beginnings and finds a fascinating flute. The plot is secondary, in contrast to every other point-and-click adventure game on this list. The Samorost series is all about cozy, moody graphics, cute soundtrack, and surprisingly clever puzzles.

We feel that playing a Samorost game is similar to taking a pleasurable drug trip because it is filled with bizarre animals, perplexing environments, and innovative encounters. It's an Alice in Wonderland without words. It's in space, though. instead of a female, a gnome.

Chuchel is a point-and-click independent game that doubles as a slapstick comedy. The titular character of Chuchel, from the creators of Machinarium and Samorost, is a chubby, hairy, but endearing speck that resembles an intensely yellow upside-down acorn. You match Chuchel's curious nature, clicking and experimenting with your charmingly hand-drawn cartoon world while laughing at all the trouble you can get him up to, along with an equally silly and colorful cast of blobs and commonplace objects.

Although Day of the Tentacle is Maniac Mansion's official sequel, Ron Gilbert and Gary Winnick's Thimbleweed Park feels more like the real thing because it allows you to explore not only the Mansion but also its surroundings and the nearby town. the strangest town.

In addition to feeling like a lost LucasArts classic or an ode to the company's adventures, Thimbleweed Park is one of the best adventure and vintage games available today. With its hefty pixel art and large verb buttons, creators Horrible Toybox makes Thimbleweed Park's appearance and atmosphere distinctly retro while also ingeniously adding to the genre. The smart puzzles can have several answers and may even require multiple characters to complete. A bold denouement that feels like a mic-drop to the entire genre is the ending, which follows. The only ones who could get away with it were Maniac Mansion's creators.
