Scarlet Heart is a 2011 Chinese television series based on Tong Hua's novel Bu Bu Jing Xin.
The series follows Zhang Xiao, a modern-day lady who time-travels from the twenty-first century to the Qing Dynasty during Emperor Kangxi's reign, when she, as her former incarnate Ma'er'tai Ruoxi, encounters the Emperor's sons who are engaged in a protracted war for the throne. The female heroine met and eventually fell in love with Fourth Prince Aisin Gioro Yinzhen, who would later rise to the throne as Emperor Yongzheng, throughout the series. The plot of Scarlet Heart was largely similar to the plot of the original novel, though the series' ending differed from the novel's, as did a few minor differences between the series and novel.
Scarlet Heart, a pioneer of the time-slip genre in Asian television, was a financial and critical success in China and throughout Asia.
