  1. Ilopango Lake is an active volcanic caldera that was created thousands of years ago and is one of the Best Dive Sites in El Salvador; it is El Salvador's favored diving location. Different Salvadoran diving companies choose to dive in different regions. The Los Flumeroles area of Ilopango Lake is a renowned tourist destination. Divers will be able to feel the warm water rising from the active volcano at this site. Also, have a look at the sulfur deposits that have formed around the fissures in the lake bed. Another popular diving location is the Christ the Redeemer statue, which is located close to the Los Quemados island.


    Divers will locate a sculpture of Christ the Redeemer about 30 meters deep; it is identical to the one on top of Sugar Loaf Mountain in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Ilopango Lake is the place to go if diving into an active volcano caldera is on your bucket list.

  2. The Los Cobanos protected area covers around 264 square kilometers and includes the beach, mangroves, and coral reef. The natural protected area features a diverse marine ecology. Los Cobanos beach is a lovely stretch of golden sand surrounded by a ring of palm trees that is ideal for relaxing.


    Los Cobanos beach is roughly an hour and a half drive from San Salvador. This is the favorite place for ocean exploration by diving firms. The Los Cobanos Rocky Reefs is a famous diving location and is one of the Best Dive Sites in El Salvador. You will see a lot of aquatic life during your dive. There are more shipwrecks to dive at this location, including the SS Douglas, SS Cheribon, and SS Arce. If you wish to visit Los Cobanos, call one of El Salvador's diving companies to find out when the optimum time to dive in this spot is. You will also need a higher level of dive certification to dive into the shipwrecks. Although the Pacific Ocean waters lack the gorgeous reefs found in the Caribbean, Los Cobanos is a good place for diving in El Salvador.

  3. Lake Coatepeque was formed by volcanic activity and is located 18 kilometers south of Santa Ana. It is 745 meters above sea level, with a surface size of 25.3 square kilometers, and a depth of 115 meters. The lake contains an island known as Isla del Cerro or Teopán. In Nahuatl, the toponym "Coatepeque" means "Hill of Snakes."


    Lake Coatepeque is another volcanic caldera in the country's west, near the city of Santa Ana and the Cerro Verde National Park with its spectacular volcanoes, and is one of the Best Dive Sites in El Salvador. Despite the fact that this gorgeous lake has fantastic diving locations, it is not as popular as Ilopango Lake.
