Diving at Lake Coatepeque

Lake Coatepeque was formed by volcanic activity and is located 18 kilometers south of Santa Ana. It is 745 meters above sea level, with a surface size of 25.3 square kilometers, and a depth of 115 meters. The lake contains an island known as Isla del Cerro or Teopán. In Nahuatl, the toponym "Coatepeque" means "Hill of Snakes."

Lake Coatepeque is another volcanic caldera in the country's west, near the city of Santa Ana and the Cerro Verde National Park with its spectacular volcanoes, and is one of the Best Dive Sites in El Salvador. Despite the fact that this gorgeous lake has fantastic diving locations, it is not as popular as Ilopango Lake. So, if you wish to go diving at Coatepeque Lake, contact a local diving firm; I am confident they will be able to set you up.
