  2. The Shenandoah Mill is ideal for Weddings, Receptions, and Other Special Events. Enjoy a rustic country setting with a waterwheel and a charming garden.

Don and Carolyn Riedlinger purchased the Mill in 1997 and methodically relocated it to its current location in Gilbert, Arizona, where it was completed in 1999. Swope's ownership list was passed down through familial lines to Doug Kiser. Leroy B. Custer, Kiser's great-great grandpa, ran the mill until his death in 1926. Because of the white flour he made, his mill drew consumers from far and wide.

The original mill was four stories tall, with the first story made of solid stone. Leroy's sons employed a roller mill in the 1920s, which produced finer, whiter flour than the traditional stone grinders. The words "American (Midget) Marvel" can still be seen on the front of the roller mill, which is now on exhibit behind Shenandoah Mill in the Enchanted Garden.

Grain was fed down to the millstones by a system of wooden chutes. Another series of chutes with cupped belts inside hoisted flour back up to the higher floors, where it fell through bolting or sifting equipment and eventually into bags or bins. In recent history, it was known as the Muddy Creek Roller Mill, and it produced "Custer's Best" flour until it was destroyed by a flood in 1942.
