  4. Palmetto was founded by Samuel Sparks Lamb in 1866. He platted the village and named it after his native state of South Carolina, the "Palmetto State". The eldest son of the township’s founding father, built 1102 Riverside Drive as their new family home. This house was a SEARS & ROEBUCK HOUSE ordered from a catalogue and came complete and ready to put together. The family then occupied this home for a long time as they had outgrown their original home next door. This local landmark is listed on the "Nation’s Registry of Historical Homes." The historic Lamb Estate adjoins their property on the lot's western perimeter. The city became officially established in 1893. When the railroad came to Palmetto in 1902, it allowed contractors to have a steady supply of bricks to build many new brick buildings. The Manatee River played an important part in the history of Palmetto. To the pioneers, the river was like their innerstate highways of today. J.A. Lamb served as one of the first aldermen and continued to be active in Palmetto until his death in 1910.

While Manatee County has experienced steady growth over the years, it has managed to hold on to its rich history. Not long ago, Money Magazine ranked Manatee County as the 21st Best Place to Live in America.

Their house was originally built in 1913 by J.A. It was occupied by Lamb (founder of Palmetto), his eldest son, and was used as their home. This magnificent home on a corner lot blends classic charm and grandeur with sophisticated modern finishes. Their completely restored two-story guesthouse, featuring all its original wood details, heart pine wood flooring, and other period details yet embellished with all of today’s electrical systems and a professionally equipped kitchen, will appeal to every visitor and is a must-see.

  5. Marrero's was originally a private home, built in 1890-1891 by Francisco Marrero, a prominent local cigar maker. He promised his beloved, Enriqueta Marrero, the house as a forever home to raise their family together. Some say their legacy lives on in the form of benevolent emotional energy passing through the halls of the old house.

Experience the grandeur of their stately Victorian home, thoughtfully updated and lovingly converted into a boutique hotel. The original architectural details of their historic estate remain intact, while modern renovations throughout the house provide guests with the best of both old and new Key West hospitality. Their location in the heart of Old Town, just half a block from Duval Street, provides prime access to all of the restaurants, bars, and sights that Key West is famous for.

  8. Old Town Manor, formerly Eaton Lodge, is a Victorian manor house and bed and breakfast inn in Key West, Florida. It is located at 511 Eaton Street, just steps off Duval Street in the heart of "Old Town" Key West. The "Old Town" neighborhood is on the west side of the island and comprises the Key West Historic District.

The Historic District of Key West is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Major tourist destinations include the nightly Sunset Celebration at Mallory Square; Fort Zachary Taylor, the southernmost point in the continental United States; the Duval Street bar and restaurant district; the Audubon House and Tropical Gardens; the Key West Lighthouse and Keeper's Quarters Museum; and Nobel Prize–winning author Ernest Hemingway's former home, now open to the public as the Ernest Hemingway House. Classic bungalows and guest mansions characterize the district.

Many guests of Old Town Manor rent bicycles and take rolling or walking tours to explore "Old Town" Key West and participate in boat excursions to experience the surrounding waters. Since the property now known as Old Town Manor was built by Samuel Otis Johnson in 1886, it has served as his grocery and butcher shop, a residence with a doctor's office, a boardinghouse, and a bed and breakfast inn.

Samuel Otis Johnson had a shop to the right of the house, which was moved to the rear of the property in the early 1900s for garage [carrying house] use. By then, this property had become the home and office of Dr. Richard William Warren and remained in the family until the death of his widow, Genevieve Warren (also known as "Miss Gen"), in the early 1970s.
