In a decade, he created about 2,100 works of art, including about 860 oil paintings, most of which were painted during the last two years of his life. These include landscapes, still lifes, portraits and self-portraits, characterized by bold tones and dramatic, impulsive and expressive brushstrokes that have contributed to the foundation of modern art. This record was unchallenged until June 2006 when it was surpassed by the Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer.

  7. Iris is one of many paintings about irises by Dutch artist Vincent van Gogh. The painting was painted while Vincent van Gogh was living in the asylum of Saint Paul-de-Mausole in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, France, in the last year of the artist's life.

The iris was painted before his first seizure in the asylum. The painting lacks the intense tension commonly found in his later works. He called the painting "a lightning rod for his illness", because he felt that he could stop himself from going crazy by continuing to paint.

In 1987, Iris became the most expensive painting ever sold at the time, setting a record that lasted for two and a half years. It was later sold for US$53.9 million to Alan Bond, but Bond did not have enough money to pay for the painting. The painting was later sold to the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles in 1990.

  8. Dora Maar with Cat is a painting by Pablo Picasso painted in 1941. The painting shows Dora Maar, the artist's mistress, with a cat sitting on Dora's shoulder. This painting is one of the most expensive in the world, with a price tag of more than $95 million.

The cat featured here was perhaps used as a symbol of the feminine sexual values of Pablo Picasso's mistress and speaks directly to the viewer about the main focus of this portrait. The cat theme continues with Cat and Cat and Bird.

The use of color in this work of art is one of the reasons why the artist enjoys the finished work. It captures some of his feelings for Dora Maar and gives others insight into their relationship. Some of the woman's signature items will be carefully added to this canvas, such as the hat that she is remembered for often wearing. Many have suggested that the inclusion of the hat in this artwork also indicates that she was involved in the Surrealist movement.

  9. Joseph Roulin was a close friend of Van Gogh while he was in the southern French town of Arles during 1888-1889. In 1888, van Gogh moved to Arles, hoping to discover more artistic sensibilities in the unspoiled countryside. But after moving here, he finds himself alone and isolated. Joseph Roulin worked as a postmaster at the station in Arles. Van Gogh often went there to send paintings to his brother Theo in the Netherlands and they became close friends. Friendship with Joseph Roulin and his family provided Van Gogh comfort and companionship. Roulin continued to see Van Gogh while he was at a psychiatric hospital in Arles, and wrote letters to Van Gogh's family to reassure them of his health and provide regular consolation as he recuperated.

Van Gogh painted about 20 pictures for Joseph Roulin and his family, and he was very proud of these portraits and wrote to his brother Theo about them.

In 1989, the Museum of Modern Art in New York purchased another Portrait of Joseph Roulin from a private collection in Zurich for $58 million. Taking inflation into account, it remains one of the most expensive paintings ever sold.

  10. This is Van Gogh's last portrait and one of his greatest, painted just a few months before his death.

Self-portraits are a motif that Van Gogh always returns to, as artists always return to their favorite subjects - Monet his Waterlily Pond, Cezanne his Mont Sainte-Victoire. During his lifetime, Van Gogh created more than 30 self-portraits.

Self Portrait, 1889 is both more confident and more aggressive. It was a peculiar face, almost rude and callous - as if the babysitter had tested enough of his features for signs of insanity. Deep wrinkles on the nose and cheeks, thick and prominent eyebrows, drooping corners of the mouth: this is the face of a man who has no time to be friendly. The zigzag and swirling lines that represent the background are also used for the people and the artist's clothes, and the relentless rejection of harmony and peace which these lines attest sets the main focus on the features. points on the subject's face: the need for distortion and rework has created a new disorder in his psychophysiology. The face was not too crude or angry but full of life, a sense of the present moment. The painter and custodian are one and the same person, it is not necessary (as it were) for the model to stay still. The photo is neither a pretty pose nor an actual recording; rather, the face that Van Gogh here is putting on the canvas is one that has seen too much danger, too much disturbance, to be able to control his agitation and trembling. In fact, it was not an unfriendly face. This portrait speaks of vitality. And the approach is clearly incapable of creating the ideal.
