Gustav Klimt (July 14, 1862 – February 6, 1918) was an Austrian Symbolist painter and one of the most prominent members of the Vienna Art Nouveau movement. His main works include paintings, murals, sketches and many other works of art, many of which are on display at the Vienna Secession gallery. His primary subject matter is the depiction of the female figure, and his pencil drawings depict the provocative appeal of a woman, whether naked or well dressed.
Adele Bloch-Bauer I is the name of a masterpiece painting by artist Gustav Klimt, an Expressionist painter, painted in 1907, depicting a portrait of the noble woman Adele Bloch-Bauer. According to reports, in June 2006, the painting was sold to Ronald Lauder for a record $135 million to his Neue Galerie in New York. This painting was the highest priced painting at the time and was on display at the gallery since July 2006.
