This quandary is at the core of Soundtrack #1, Disney+'s latest entry into K-dramas. Han Sun-woo (Park Hyung-sik) and Lee Eun-soo (Han So-hee) had been friends for 19 years, with Sun-woo falling profoundly in love with Eun-soo for eight of those years. With two weeks until his departure from South Korea for a project, Eun-soo enlists Sun-woo's assistance with a song she's working on. How would the dynamic between Sun-woo and Eun-soo alter if they are separated for an extended period of time?
Park Hyung-sik and Han So-hee, who play the lead characters with delightful effortlessness, are easily the greatest portions of the plot. Han Eun-soo is upbeat, effervescent, and even naïve at moments, in sharp contrast to Park's calm, serious, and reserved Sun-woo. Their connection, on the other hand, is simple and soothing in the way that balanced couples are - Eun-soo brings vitality to his solitary world, while he calms her storms.
Of course, Park and Han nail the very practical aspects of reconciling these abstract ideals. Sun-woo occasionally threatens to become the feared "good guy", but aside from jealous outbursts, which he freely admits to and apologizes for, he remains the wistful best friend in love. Similarly, Eun-soo's shifts from bright grins around Sun-woo to emotionally breaking down in his absence in the blink of an eye, demonstrating why she's the moment.
