  1. Mazda Motor Corporation is a Japanese multinational automaker based in Fuchū, Hiroshima, Japan. In 2015, Mazda produced 1.5 million vehicles for global sales, the majority of which (nearly 1 million) were produced in the company's Japanese plants, with the remainder coming from a variety of other plants worldwide. In 2015, Mazda was the fifteenth largest automaker by production worldwide.

Mazada is famous for its popular models ranging from sedan, hatchback, truck, pickup, SUV, van and sports car including Mazda 2, Mazda 3, Mazda6, CX-3, CX-30, CX-4, CX-5, CX-50, CX-8, CX-9, MX-30, BT-50, Bongo, MX-5, Scrum, etc. Most new car shoppers want to buy a vehicle that puts safety first. And why not? After all, you’re likely spending a pretty penny on your new car. It should come outfitted with all of the safety features needed to inspire confidence each time that you take the wheel. Fortunately, the 2021 Mazda3 can do just that. Whether you choose the sedan or hatchback version of the Mazda3, you can expect it to come brimming with safety features. Not to mention its impressive crashworthiness ratings too.

The 2021 Mazda3 makes nary a compromise when it comes to standard safety features. Opt for even the base model, hatchback or sedan, and you can expect it to come well-stocked with safety features like advanced dual-front airbags, front seat-mounted side-impact airbags and side-impact air curtains, and knee airbags. This year’s new Mazda3 is also standard with an anti-lock brake system with brake assist, dynamic stability control, and smart brake support.

Every 2021 Mazda3 model boasts a long list of standard driver-assistance technology too. Among its standard driver-assist features are automated emergency braking and automatic high-beam headlights. All models also come standard with a lane departure warning system, lane-keep assist, and radar cruise control. A driver attention alert system comes standard too.

And if those safety features don’t inspire quite enough confidence? The 2021 Mazda3 offers a slew of additional driver-assist features. Included in the Premium Plus Package, which is available on Mazda3 2.5 Turbo models, are driver-assist safety features like Traffic Jam Assist, front and rear parking sensors, a 360º View Monitor, and last but not least – Smart Brake Support with rear-cross traffic alerts.

All those safety features scored some pretty high ratings in crashworthiness tests. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has tapped this year’s new Mazda3 as a Top Safety Pick+.

In addition to its knockout looks and eager driving dynamics, the Mazda 6 family sedan is also one of the safest choices in its class. It earned its Top Safety Pick+ designation easily, with Good crash test scores, a score of Superior for its standard driver-assistance features, and an Acceptable rating for its standard headlamps. Opting for the 6's LED projector headlamps bumps that last score up to Good, but that feature is reserved for Grand Touring Reserve, Signature, or Blackout Edition trim levels. Non-premium models with LED projectors don't have curve adaptive equipment, and earned an Acceptable rating instead. You get what you pay for.

  3. Acura is the luxury and performance division of Honda Motor Company, Ltd..The brand was launched in the United States and Canada on March 27, 1986, marketing luxury and performance automobiles. Acura is the first Japanese automotive luxury brand. The creation of Acura coincided with the introduction of a JDM Honda dealership sales channel, called Honda Clio, which sold luxury vehicles, joining previously established Honda Verno, followed by Honda Primo the following year. In its first few years of existence, Acura was among the best-selling luxury marques in the US, outselling established brands such as BMW and Mercedes-Benz.

In the early 2000s, Acura introduced new models, including the company's first all-original SUV, the MDX, and two models which replaced the Integra coupé and sedan, the RSX and TSX, respectively. Type-S versions of the RSX, CL, and TL were added to the brand's lineup during that decade.

The 2021 Acura TLX is fully redesigned, and, unlike the previous generation, finds itself among 20 other cars as an IIHS Top Safety Pick+. The IIHS safety results showed good and superior marks throughout each test. Every TLX comes standard with LED low- and high-beam projector headlamps, and IIHS testing showed that the low beam pattern was never too bright for oncoming traffic, and the high-beam assist helped boost output while driving. The TLX comes standard with driver-assistant technology, such as forward-collision warning and automated emergency braking, lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitor, and rear cross-traffic alert. The TLX also features traffic sign recognition and an awareness monitor that will alert you if it senses you driving distracted.

  4. The Audi A6 is an executive car made by Audi. Now in its fifth generation, the successor to the Audi 100 is manufactured in Neckarsulm, Germany, and is available in saloon and estate configurations, the latter marketed by Audi as the Avant.

The comfortable riding, Audi A6 and its Allroad wagon counterpart earned a spot on our 2021 Editor's Choice list this year because of their smooth powertrain and high-tech cabin. They turn out pretty darn safe too. The A6 Allroad scored slightly higher than the regular A6 sedan in headlight testing, but the rest of the results were nearly identical. The A6 Premium received an acceptable rating because its LED headlights weren't as powerful. During roof strength testing, the IIHS applied 22,702 pounds to the roof of the A6 to get it to crush the standard five inches. This is exceptional, and means the A6 and A6 Allroad have a strength-to-weight ratio of 5.39 for its roof. Standard driver-assistant features include automated emergency braking, lane departure warning, with available adaptive cruise control and a system that watches for traffic when you exit the vehicle.

Audi has given the A6 updates. The base Premium trim now comes with 19-inch wheels, keyless entry, and an integrated toll-road payment module; this model's available Convenience package now includes a 360-degree camera system and in-dash navigation with a 10.1-inch infotainment display. Mid-range Premium Plus models get adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist as standard and the top-spec Prestige adds standard rear-window sunshades.

The A6 has earned five stars for crash-test safety from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety also reported strong results for the new A6 in 2019 and named it a Top Safety Pick+ for the 2019 and 2020 model years.

Audi also offers quite a few standards and optional driver-assistance features, including a system that watches out for traffic to save you from stepping out of the car and into the path of a moving vehicle. Key safety features include: Standard automated emergency braking, Standard lane departure warning and Available adaptive cruise control.

  5. The 2021 Audi A7 blurs a beautiful line between sedan and hatchback with its sleek profile and refined nature. Its turbocharged V-6 powertrain and standard all-wheel drive provide quick acceleration and four-season traction. The Audi also treats passengers to a quiet cabin space that boasts cutting-edge technology and countless luxuries.

The big news for the 2021 A7 is the addition of a plug-in hybrid model. The hybrid powertrain consists of a turbocharged four-cylinder and an electric motor that together combine for 362 horsepower. Thanks to its 14.4-kWh battery pack, the A7 PHEV will be capable of electric-only motoring, but Audi hasn't yet released details on the car's range.

The Audi A7 is a little like the A6, only it's bigger, quicker, and its hatchback rear lid makes it a more useful luxury four-door. The A7 scored Good and Superior ratings on almost all IIHS testing, with an Acceptable rating for headlights. Although every A7 comes with low- and high-beam LED projectors, the lights emitted some glare that kept it from receiving a Good rating. The 2019 A7 we last tested weighed 4377 pounds, could get to 60 mph from a stop in just 4.4 seconds, and could come to a stop from 70 mph in just 157 feet. Not only did the over two-ton luxury sedan avoid a collision at 25 mph, the Audi Pre Sense technology slowed it by 36 mph in 2.3 seconds before impacting a test dummy during the 37-mph IIHS parallel adult test.

The 2021 A7 hasn't been crash-tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or fully evaluated by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). However, it offers advanced driver-assistance equipment that includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go technology and night vision. Key safety features include: Standard forward-collision warning and automated emergency braking; Available blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert; and Available lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist.

  6. Genesis Motor, LLC, commonly referred to as Genesis is the luxury vehicle division of the South Korean vehicle manufacturer Hyundai Motor Group. Initially envisioned along with plans for Hyundai's new luxury Genesis sedan in 2004, the Genesis brand was officially announced as an independent marque on 4 November 2015, launching their first Genesis standalone model, the Genesis G90, in 2017.Genesis models are designed in Rüsselsheim (Germany), Namyang (South Korea), and Irvine (United States); and produced in Ulsan (South Korea). In 2020, J.D. Power named Genesis the most dependable automotive brand and in 2021 the most technologically innovative in North America.

The G70 is Genesis Motor's third model and was designed to compete with compact executive and entry-level luxury saloons/sedans. The Genesis G70 was named the 2019 North American Car of the Year. The exterior design shares cues from the other two Genesis models, the G80 and the G90. The grille features Genesis' corporate design, with functional air intakes along the bottom and side. The LED headlights operate with separate daytime running lights. The rear has an athletic stance framed by LED taillights and dual-exhausts. The interior's center console is angled slightly towards the driver and is composed of soft-touch plastics, leather and real metal accents. The layout has three large knobs for the climate controls, an eight-inch touch screen, and a small electronic shifter.Technology features include a 15-speaker 660W Lexicon audio system, 8-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto support and a heads-up display. Quilted leather seats and generous touches of brushed aluminum and stainless steel create an environment that's rich beyond the G70's price tag.

The Genesis G90 is a full-size, four-door, luxury sedan manufactured by Genesis. The G90 is the successor of the Hyundai Equus and was known as the Genesis EQ900 in South Korea from 2015 to 2019. The base model Genesis G90 has a turbocharged, 3.3-liter V6 engine which makes 365 horsepower and 376 lb-ft. of torque. The G90 Ultimate has a 5.0-liter V8 with 420 horsepower and 383 lb-ft. of torque. All models have an eight-speed automatic transmission with shiftronic and are also available with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive (HTRAC).

Skeptical of the low-cost luxury sports sedan from Genesis? Maybe the G70's IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award will put those worries on ice. Various safety and driving technologies of the G70 add joy and comfort of driving. Thoughtful technology impresses you even in the most unexpected moments. The G70 received Good and Superior ratings on all crash tests and headlight measurements, but came up short on the somewhat difficult to use child-seat latches. The IIHS said the lower anchors were too deep in the seat, and it made maneuvering around them difficult. The rear seat space is tight on the G70, but its balanced chassis and driving feel at a base price of $37,000 is an unbeatable deal. The G70 comes with more standard driver-assist technology than many of its rivals. Automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control are all standard. The G70 avoided all IIHS vehicle-to-vehicle front crashes, as well as 12- and 25-mph vehicle-to-pedestrian impacts. During the 37 mph vehicle-to-pedestrian test, the G70 dropped to just 4 mph in under a second. The brake force is strong with this one. The Intelligent Front-Lighting System(IFS) allows the driver to travel in the vehicle with a high beam without the risk of glaring in vision of oncoming traffic or any preceding vehicles. This function is achieved using LEDs with individual electronic controls which are turned up or dimmed down as required. Center side airbags have been implemented in the front seats to prevent injuries that may arise in side collisions due to driver-passenger or occupant-object impact within the cabin. A total of ten airbags further protect all vehicle occupants, including advanced airbags for the driver and front passenger seats that detect the presence of a passenger and the severity of a collision to control deployment, side and curtain airbags for both the front and rear, and a driver's knee airbag. The G70 warns and automatically assists in braking as needed if the preceding vehicle suddenly slows or if there is a high risk of a front-end collision due to a stopped vehicle or sudden appearance of pedestrians or cyclists. Braking assistance is also applied when a risk of collision with an oncoming vehicle is detected when turning left at an intersection. RCCA warns the driver of approaching traffic from the left and right sides of the vehicle during reverse maneuvers. Even after the warning, if necessary, it applies emergency braking to prevent a collision.

Like the entry-level luxury G70, the Genesis G90 is plush option aiming at a spot alongside Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Audi A8, and BMW 7-series. All of which are absent from this year's list. The G90 received top marks for crashworthiness, crash avoidance and mitigation. Like the G70, it received an Acceptable rating for its somewhat difficult to use child-seat anchors. During front-crash testing, front- and side-curtain airbags kept the driver's head away from the steering wheel, glass, and other hard structures that would cause injury. The G90's standard LED projector low- and high-beam headlights ranked Good for all four curved roadway visibility tests, despite the model not having curve-adaptive tech found on models like the Mazda 6 and S-Class. The G90 comes with blind spot detection, collision warning, and automated emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist. Some outstanding safety functions are INTELLIGENT FRONTLIGHTING which automatically dims the high-beam headlights when the system detects an oncoming vehicle. This feature is achieved by a series of individual LEDs which can turn up or dim on-demand, ensuring that other drivers are never blinded by overly bright lights; SMART CRUISE CONTROL WITH STOP & GO which is a front-mounted radar sensor to detect the distance of the car ahead, automatically adjusting its speed to the vehicles around you.

  7. Another brand must be mentioned in this list is Honda Accord & Honda Insight. The Honda Accord , also known as the Honda Inspire in Japan and China for certain generations, is a series of automobiles manufactured by Honda since 1976, best known for its four-door sedan variant, which has been one of the best-selling cars in the United States since 1989. Since its initiation, Honda has offered several different car body styles and versions of the Accord, and often vehicles marketed under the Accord nameplate concurrently in different regions differ quite substantially.

In 1982, the Accord became the first car from a Japanese manufacturer to be produced in the United States when production commenced in Marysville, Ohio at Honda's Marysville Auto Plant. The Accord has achieved considerable success, especially in the United States, where it was the best-selling Japanese car for sixteen years (1982–97), topping its class in sales in 1991 and 2001, with around ten million vehicles sold. In 1989, the Accord was the first vehicle sold under an import brand to become the best-selling automobile in the United States. As of 2020, the Accord has sold more than 18 million units. Numerous road tests, past and present, rate the Accord as one of the world's most reliable vehicles. The Accord has been on the Car and Driver 10Best list a record 36 times.

With nearly 200,000 sold last year—during a pandemic—it's one of the best-selling sedans in the U.S. And it's safe. The Accord got top marks during IIHS crash tests and avoidance tests. Its child-seat anchors earned a Good+ rating for their additional easy-to-find latch positions. Accord LX and Hybrid trims received an Acceptable headlight rating, likely because its high-beam uses a halogen reflector rather than the LED reflectors standard on all other trims. Its standard emergency braking system performed well in all tests, and during the 37-mph parallel adult test, it dropped to 1 mph in 2.3 seconds before making contact with the test dummy.

The Honda Insight is a hybrid electric vehicle that is manufactured and marketed by Honda. Its first generation was a two-door, two passenger liftback (1999–2006) and in its second generation was a four-door, five passenger liftback (2009–2014). In its third generation, it became a four-door sedan (2019–present). It was Honda's first model with Integrated Motor Assist system and the most fuel efficient gasoline-powered car available in the U.S. without plug-in capability — for the length of its production run. The Insight ranked as the top-selling vehicle in Japan for the month of April 2009, a first for a hybrid model. During its first twelve months after first available in the Japanese market, the second-generation Insight sold 143,015 units around the world.

Although the Honda Insight is more Civic-like in size, it scored higher than the Accord during IIHS testing. It comes standard with automated emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control. The compact hybrid sedan achieved Good and Superior marks across every IIHS test, with a Good+ rating for easy-to-us child-seat anchors. Unlike the Accord, every Insight comes standard with LED low- and high-beam headlights. All models meet qualifications for the agencies' awards, so buyers don't have to pay extra for an option package to enjoy the safety and security the Insight provides. We lived with a 2019 Insight for 40,000 miles during a long-term road test.

    Kia K5

The Kia K5, formerly known as the Kia Optima, is a mid-size car manufactured by Kia since 2000 and marketed globally through various nameplates. First generation cars were mostly marketed as the Optima, although the Kia Magentis name was used in Europe and Canada when sales began there in 2002. For the second-generation models, Kia used the Kia Lotze and Kia K5 name for the South Korean market, and the Magentis name globally, except in the United States, Canada and Malaysia, where the Optima name was retained until the 2021 model year. The K5 name is used for all markets since the introduction of the fifth generation in 2019.

Last year's Kia Optima was a Top Safety Pick. The Optima has been replaced by the sharper-looking K5, and Kia's mid-size sedan is safer than ever. Part of what makes the K5 safer is its added pedestrian-detection technology. Good and Superior ratings were awarded by the IIHS, but there were mixed results during headlight testing. Four different variations were tested. K5 GT-Line and GT models built after November 2020 have the best headlights with LED projectors. However, those same trims built before December 2020 received a Poor rating for inadequate visibility in all four headlight tests. The newest K5 LX, LXS, GT-Line, EX, and GT received an Acceptable rating for their shared LED reflectors.

    Some outstanding safety specifications:

    • Forward Collision Avoidance-Assist w/ Pedestrian Detection (FCA-Ped) works independently of the driver in critical situations, applying the brakes to help prevent or lessen the effects of a frontal collision.
    • Driver Attention Warning (DAW) with Leading Vehicle Departure Alert (LVDA) monitors the driver and will provide alerts if it senses the driver's attention level has been significantly reduced. Additionally, the system alerts the driver when a leading vehicle begins to move forward from a still position.
    • Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) may apply corrective steering if it senses you drifting outside your lane.
    • Lane Following Assist (LFA) monitors lane markings to keep the K5 centered in its lane.
    • Rear Occupant Alert (ROA). Upon exiting the vehicle, the K5 can provide audible and visual warnings if unattended passengers remain in the rear seating area. Furthermore, if enrolled in Kia Connect, the push notification will be sent to the registered account holder upon triggering of audible warning.
    • The model is equipped with Dual Front Advanced Airbags, Dual Rear Side Airbags, Full-Length Side Curtain Airbags and Driver's Knee Airbag. These advanced systems help detect the presence of passenger, monitors the severity of an impact and controls airbag inflation accordingly to help reduce injuries in certain collisions.
    • The foundation of your Kia's active safety system, the Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) uses electronic sensors at each wheel hub to detect when wheels begin to skid. If skidding under braking is detected, ABS modulates brake-force to reduce skidding, which then allows for reduced braking distances, in addition to helping you maintain control of your vehicle.

  9. Lexus is the luxury vehicle division of the Japanese automaker Toyota. The Lexus brand is marketed in more than 70 countries and territories worldwide and is Japan's largest-selling make of premium cars. It has ranked among the 10 largest Japanese global brands in market value. Lexus is headquartered in Nagoya, Japan. Operational centers are located in Brussels, Belgium, and Plano, Texas, United States. Lexus was originated from a corporate project to develop a new premium sedan, code-named F1, which began in 1983 and culminated in the launch of the Lexus LS in 1989.

Models are usually updated throughout a generation. Better headlights, different bumpers, wheels, and colors are added. Obviously some of those changes are more significant than others. The Lexus IS received a big safety update for models built after June 2017. Lexus modified the footwell and reinforced the front of the car and its doors. These changes translated to Good IIHS crash-test ratings across the board. Oddly enough, the standard headlights on base IS300 were given a higher rating than IS300 equipped with the $1295 Premium Triple-Beam LED projector headlights. According to the headlight distances measured by the IIHS, the triple beams output wasn't great. Another improvement for 2021 models improved detection of pedestrians and bicyclists in low-light conditions. Every IS comes with automated emergency braking, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control.

    Some outstanding safety specifications:

    • PRE-COLLISION SYSTEM WITH PEDESTRIAN DETECTION. With enhanced radar and camera capabilities, this system now features left-turn intersection detection of a pedestrian or vehicle. It can also help detect the vehicle ahead, a preceding bicyclist in daytime, and a preceding pedestrian in daytime and low-light conditions. Should it detect a potential frontal collision, it can help provide steering assistance and can help automatically brake the vehicle to a stop.
    • LANE TRACING ASSIST. When All-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control is enabled, this hands-on system monitors visible lane markings and can recognize vehicles ahead. To help the driver keep their vehicle centered in the lane, it can provide steering assistance. Designed for convenience, the system can even be used in traffic and on highways with gradual curves.
    • LANE DEPARTURE ALERT WITH STEERING ASSIST. This system utilizes a camera to monitor visible lane markings. If an inadvertent lane departure is detected at speeds above 32 mph, the system is designed to warn you so that you can steer back into the lane, and can even take slight corrective measures to help keep you within your visibly marked lane.
    • ROAD SIGN ASSIST. This system uses a built-in camera to help provide road sign information in the instrument panel. In addition to displaying speed limit information, the system can alert you of certain detected signs you otherwise might have missed.
    • ALL-SPEED DYNAMIC RADAR CRUISE CONTROL. This system now helps detect an upcoming curve and may lower your speed accordingly. It also helps you maintain a preset speed and following distance from the vehicle ahead. Whether at highway speeds or in stop-and-go traffic, the system is designed to detect if you get closer than the preset distance and can automatically slow your vehicle—even to a complete stop.
    • INTELLIGENT HIGH BEAMS. To help provide greater visibility for you as well as other drivers, Intelligent High Beams offer added illumination to help keep you focused on the road. When the road ahead is clear, the system defaults to high-beam mode, then temporarily switches to low beams when it detects the headlamps or taillamps of vehicles ahead.

  10. The Model 3 is an electric fastback mid-size four-door sedan developed by Tesla. The Model 3 was marketed as being more affordable to more people than previous models by Tesla. Since early 2020, the Model 3 has been the best-selling electric car in world history, and, in June 2021, became the first electric car to pass the 1 million global sales milestone. The Model 3 has been the world's top selling plug-in electric car (PEV) for three years running, from 2018 to 2020. It has also been the best-selling PEV in the United States for three consecutive years, 2018 to 2020, the top selling PEV in Europe in 2019, and the best-selling PEV in China in 2020.

Some cars do more to keep you safe than others. The Tesla Model 3 is one of those cars. A major part of the engineering behind the Model 3's self-driving future was to keep its occupants safe, especially while they wait behind the wheel for that functionality to arrive. The Model 3 earned Good ratings for all six IIHS crash tests, with a Superior rating for vehicle-to-vehicle crash avoidance, and an Advanced rating for vehicle-to-pedestrian avoidance. It's also safer than the Model S tested by IIHS in 2017 that received an Acceptable rating for driver-side small overlap, and a Poor rating for its inadequate headlights. Although it is not part of the IIHS test, Tesla's Sentry Mode will keep an eye on bumps and bruises that might happen while you're away.

Safety is the most important part of the overall Model 3 design. Some outstanding safety specifications:

    • Rigid Structure: A material mix of aluminum and steel help to achieve the best structural rigidity, and increased occupant safety.
    • Impact Protection: Combined with impact-absorbing rails and center pillar reinforcements, the strength and support of the rigid battery pack provides protection from every side.
    • Very Low Rollover Risk: The position and weight of the floor-mounted battery pack provide a very low center of gravity—allowing for a very low rollover risk.

With the above safety-first design, Model 3 achieved a NHTSA 5-star safety rating in every category and subcategory with its energy absorbent crash structure, rigid passenger compartment, incredible side impact protection and one of the lowest rollover risks of any sedan on the road.
