1972 Nike Waffle Racing Flat "Moon Shoe"

According to Guinness World Records, these are the most expensive sneakers ever sold at auction.

The 12 original Nike Waffle Racing Flats, dubbed the "Moon Shoes," sold for $437,500 at Sotheby's New York on July 23, 2019.
"I believe sneaker culture and collecting are on the verge of a breakout moment," said buyer Miles Spencer Nadal in a statement.

Only a few pairs of the original batch of 12 pairs remain, and they were created by Nike co-founder and Oregon University track coach Bill Bowerman.

The owner hopes to "display the sneakers — plus another 99 pairs obtained in the sale – at his Dare to Dream Automobile Museum in Toronto, Canada," according to Guinness World Records.
