American International School of Bucharest
The American International School of Bucharest (AISB) is a top IB school in Romania that welcomes students from all over the world, from early childhood to grade 12. It started in 1962, and the school year is divided into two parts, from late August to mid-June.
AISB provides an international English curriculum designed for the diverse student community in Bucharest. Students can choose the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma in grades 11-12, the IB Middle Years Program (MYP) in grades 6-10, and the IB Primary Years Program (PYP) in grades EC3-5. In the Early Learning Center (ELC), they use educational ideas from Reggio Emilia, connecting them with the PYP.
The school has experts in various subjects like art, drama, film, physical education, music, design, computers, Spanish, and French, catering to different grade levels. AISB also has a Learning Support program for students with mild to moderate learning and social-emotional/behavioral needs. Learning Support specialists work with teachers to give personalized instruction, accommodations, and a modified curriculum if necessary. Students in this program have Individualized Learning Plans (ILPs).
For additional 1:1 support, families can arrange a Learning Intervention Focused Tutor (LIFT) at their own cost. The school is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IB) for the IB Primary Years, Middle Years, and Diploma Programs.
AISB encourages students to participate in eight seasonal sports: basketball, cross-country, football, softball, swimming, tennis, track & field, and volleyball. Through SCIS (Sports Council of International Schools), students can participate in local matches and tournaments in BISAAC (Bucharest International Schools Athletics & Activities Conference) and with Romanian schools and clubs. They also have chances for international travel experiences.
