Amrheins
The next position on the list of the oldest restaurants in Boston is Amrheins which reputedly opened its doors for business in 1890, and is the oldest restaurant and pub in South Boston. Amrheins was a well-liked gathering place for the local families and politicians for much of its history. Amrheins temporarily closed in 2016 for renovations, which led some of its devoted patrons to fear that it would remain closed permanently.
Even if Amrheins did reopen after almost a month, its future is once more in doubt. City Point Capital bought Amrheins and the adjacent property at the beginning of 2019, but they haven't said if they intend to use it for something else or not. Amrheins is still open for the moment.
For more than a century, Amrheins has served as the foundation of South Boston. The oldest hand-carved bar in America and the original Boston draft beer pump are on display. The foods they serve in their traditional form endure despite shifting culinary trends. While maintaining a focus on New England cuisine, their menu offers meals with global influences made using locally sourced ingredients.
