One of the oldest restaurants in Boston and the oldest restaurant to have run continuously since it opened is Union Oyster House, which has been serving diners since 1826. On May 27, 2003, the structure was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

The Kennedy family and Daniel Webster are just two historical figures who have dined at the Union Oyster House. Webster was reputed to eat at least six dishes of oysters every day. Most unexpectedly, Louis Philippe, who ruled France from 1830 to 1848, resided in exile on the second story in 1796. He made a living by instructing young women in French. John Royston Coleman, a labor economist and the president of Haverford College, once worked here undercover as a "salad-and-sandwich man" in the 1970s. He wrote about the experience in his book The Blue Collar Journal.

The Union Oyster House, which is close to Faneuil Hall on the Freedom Trail, has the unusual distinction of being the country's first restaurant. The food service at this Pre-Revolutionary era structure in Boston began in 1826, and it has continued ever since with the stalls and oyster bar, where Daniel Webster was a regular patron, in their original locations.

Henry C. Marliave, a French immigrant, founded the Marliave after traveling to America from Paris. It is currently one of the city's oldest eateries. In 1868, Marliave created his ideal restaurant within the United States Hotel, armed with a collection of French recipes. The big fire of 1872 caused the hotel and his restaurant to burn down.

Henry Marliave abandoned his business in 1880 and relocated to Hot Springs, Arkansas, in an effort to get treatment from rheumatism. As he relocated back to Boston in 1884 and opened a new Marliave in 1885 at the address we now know as 10 Bosworth Street, it is safe to say that the call of Boston was continually on his mind.

In the 2000s, the state closed down the Marliave and took control of it. When the current owner and chef Scott Herritt acquired the property in 2008, it was given new life. Herritt combined diverse elements of The Marliave's past to create the fusion French-Italian restaurant that it is today. This restaurant retains many of its original features from its 1885 appearance, including the Marliave tin ceilings and walls that have been restored from the 1900s.

The next position on the list of the oldest restaurants in Boston is Amrheins which reputedly opened its doors for business in 1890, and is the oldest restaurant and pub in South Boston. Amrheins was a well-liked gathering place for the local families and politicians for much of its history. Amrheins temporarily closed in 2016 for renovations, which led some of its devoted patrons to fear that it would remain closed permanently.

Even if Amrheins did reopen after almost a month, its future is once more in doubt. City Point Capital bought Amrheins and the adjacent property at the beginning of 2019, but they haven't said if they intend to use it for something else or not. Amrheins is still open for the moment.

For more than a century, Amrheins has served as the foundation of South Boston. The oldest hand-carved bar in America and the original Boston draft beer pump are on display. The foods they serve in their traditional form endure despite shifting culinary trends. East Boston, Massachusetts, in the United States, is home to the restaurant Santarpio's Pizza. As a bakery, it was first founded in 1903. Three decades later, Frank Santarpio started selling pizza there. The restaurant, a landmark for residents and a popular destination for tourists, is well known for its Boston-style pizza, which it has been serving at its Chelsea Street location since 1933. According to a Boston Globe reporter, the only thing that most New Englanders know about East Boston is the Santarpio's Pizza sign that they can see from the highway as they travel to the airport.

One of the first pizzerias to start in East Boston and the neighboring areas to serve Italian Americans who had immigrated there is still owned and run by the Santarpio family. Santarpio's menu solely features the following four items: grilled lamb, steak tips, chicken, and sausage.

When the production team asked that the 75 pies be ready in an hour, the restaurant refused to fulfill an order from the movie My Best Friend's Girl. For thirty years, Glenn Carlton has baked bread and made the pizza dough at Santarpio's.
