Argyle Waterfall
At 175 feet (54 meters), Argyle Waterfall - Tobago’s highest waterfall attracts locals and foreigners to its cascade of cool, crisp water that flows down from three dramatic levels. Located on the northeast side of Tobago, the falls are just outside Roxborough, on Scarborough road. Encircled by lush green foliage, the waterfall is accessed after a 15-20 minute trek along a clearly marked trail. Along the way, visitors are greeted by butterflies and a variety of birds. With 3 levels, the thunderous sound of the waterfall is heard long before visitors see it. The height of the first cascade hides the real splendor of Argyle’s upper levels. If visitors are adventurous they can hike up a bushy path on the right-hand side to the second level, where they are greeted by a thick mist. Finally, going further the third pool, though the smallest is the deepest and the best for swimming, diving, jumping, or swinging into the water from available vines.
The Argyle Waterfall is the tallest on this small island, and they tumble and cascade down a rocky course that stretches some 175 feet. The Argyle Waterfall can be found near the village of Roxborough on the island’s east coast, and in addition to paying a fee to access them, visitors also have to pay to hire a guide at the entrance of Windward Road. The fees are light, and it helps to have a guide to tell visitors all about the ecology of the region as they make the hike to the falls. The hike lasts about fifteen to twenty minutes, and the deep pools at the base of the falls are a welcome reward. It shows its splendor in the three levels of cascading water that are all easily explorable. The top level is best for standing under the gushing water while the second is like an infinity pool where visitors can absorb nature’s beauty. The ground level is expansive and perfect for swimming. Therefore, Argyle Waterfall deserves to be one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Trinidad and Tobago.
