Barclays Investment Bank

Barclays is a British multinational universal bank, headquartered in London, England. Barclays is a financial services provider that has two operating divisions: Barclays UK and Barclays International. Barclays Execution Services serves as assistance for these divisions. The goldsmith banking industry was founded in the City of London in 1690, and this is where Barclays gets its name. In 1736, James Barclay joined the partnership. Twelve English provincial and London-based banks, including Goslings Bank, Backhouse's Bank, and Gurney, Peckover, and Company, merged to form Barclays and Co. in 1896. The bank Barclays grew over the ensuing decades to become a global institution. The initial cash dispenser was installed by Barclays in 1967.

Barclays is a component of the FTSE 100 Index and has its primary listing on the London Stock Exchange. It is also listed on the New York Stock Exchange secondarily. The Financial Stability Board views this bank as one with systemic importance. In a 2011 study, Barclays was found to be the most dominant transnational business in terms of ownership and consequent corporate control over financial stability globally and market competitiveness, followed by Axa and State Street Corporation. Barclays is the fifth-largest bank in Europe based on total assets and has operations in more than 40 nations. The leading financier of fossil fuel firms in Europe is Barclays.
