Bazaruto Archipelago, Mozambique

Location: The Mozambique Channel of the Indian Ocean

Located just off the coast of Mozambique near the town of Vilanculos, the Bazaruto Archipelago consists of six distinct islands. The most famous of these are probably Benguerra Island, Bazaruto Island, and Santa Carolina. These are all known as Paradise Island because of the beautiful beaches and near-shore coral reefs. If you have seen any pictures of this beautiful beach, you will have to admit this is one of the paradises on earth. Immerse yourself in the clear blue water or walk barefoot on the fine sand of the Bazaruto Archipelago coast, you will have the most relaxing moments. The sea is very shallow, so the waves are very calm and gentle. Visitors can relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery here. Magaruque Island, the third-largest island in the Bazaruto chain, is most often chosen by tourists. It is the closest island to Baobab Backpackers, only takes about two hours by dhow fishing boat to get there. On nice weather days, at Magaruque Island, the sun shines brightly through the clouds. Nothing is more wonderful than sitting on rattan chairs to sunbathe and enjoy the cool and refreshing sea breeze.

The Archipelago has had a national park since 1971. It is particularly famous for its number of endangered reptiles. Humpback whales pass through the Archipelago during their annual migrations in June and November. The stunning coral reefs are also home to more than 2,000 species of fish. Whales and dolphins race to swim. It is considered one of the best diving sites in the world.
