Beautiful architecture

You may see magnificent historic architecture all around the country, but Bucharest stands out since it is home to many fine buildings dating back to the First and Second World Wars. Sadly, some brand-new, contemporary apartment buildings are scattered among the city's magnificent art-deco and 19th-century structures. Nevertheless, exploring and learning about the capital city is a lot of fun.

Particularly in the downtown area, many of the old structures have been given a fresh coat of paint. However, there are still some venerable buildings that are in a pitiful condition of decay. While Bucharest does have some attractive, well-kept neighborhoods, many other sections are still neglected and uncared for. You can't dispute Bucharest's appeal, though. Besides, Romania is also famous for its old churches. Romania boasts a wide variety of stunning structures of worship, including wooden churches, painted monasteries, synagogues, and opulent cathedrals. Many of Bucharest's ancient, historic churches were destroyed during the Communist era. But amazingly, many of them pulled through.
