Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter (born September 4, 1981) is a singer, songwriter, and actress from the United States. Beyoncé was born and reared in Houston, Texas, and competed in different singing and dance competitions as a kid. She rose to prominence as the main vocalist of Destiny's Child, one of the best-selling girl groups of all time, in the late 1990s. During their sabbatical, her debut solo album Dangerously in Love (2003) was released, which contained the US Billboard Hot 100 number-one singles "Crazy in Love" and "Baby Boy."
Beyoncé is one of the world's best-selling music artists, with 120 million albums sold worldwide. She is the first solo artist to have all six of their studio albums chart at number one on the Billboard 200. Her achievement in the 2000s was acknowledged by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) as the Top Certified Artist of the Decade and Billboard as the Top Female Artist of the Decade. Billboard named her the highest-earning black musician of all time, while in 2020, she was included on Time's list of 100 women who defined the last century.
