Bolita
For a long time, LA has been lacking in bar-hopping zones, but that may be changing along a short portion of Virgil Ave, where the charming, Havana-inspired Bolita has opened not far from quality drinking establishments like Melody and The Virgil. The proprietors also own El Cochinito and Cafe Tropical in Cuba, so you know they know their business.
You should pull up to the narrow bar with the tiled mirror back and order craft cocktails like the Cheat Day Daiquiri, which is made with rum, brown butter, banana, lime, dulce de leche, and nutmeg. There's also a nice selection of beers and wines by the glass, as well as a zero-proof cocktail list (and they'll happily make any of their cocktails NA by request). There's a modest selection of bar nibbles, including Cafe Tropical's Bar Pie. From 5-7 p.m., You must enjoy Tierra Madre Lager for $4, wines or a Daiquiri for $8, and a Bocadito sandwich for $4 during happy hour.
