Brahmavihara-Arama
Brahmavihara-Arama is a big Buddhist monastery in the picturesque village of Banjar in Bali's Buleleng Regency. It is also one of the top Buddhist temples on the island. The monastery was established in 1958 by Bante Girri Rakhito Mahatera. It is named after the Pali word "Brahmavihara." This word represents the four divine abodes of love, compassion, joy, and calmness. These qualities are fundamental to this holy sanctuary.
Brahmavihara-Arama's architectural design harmoniously blends traditional Balinese artistry with contemporary elements, creating a serene and inspiring environment for contemplation and spiritual growth. The monastery's verdant gardens, adorned with vibrant flowers and lush greenery, provide a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Hence, when stepping onto the temple grounds, one will be immediately enveloped by an aura of serenity.
Meanwhile, the monastery's central courtyard, adorned with a majestic stupa, serves as the heart of Brahmavihara-Arama, where daily prayers and ceremonies take place. There is also the stupa - a symbolic representation of the Buddha's enlightenment - which stands as a beacon of spiritual guidance, reminding visitors of the path towards liberation from suffering.
Within the monastery's walls, visitors can find refuge in the monastery's meditation halls, where they can practice mindful breathing techniques and cultivate inner peace. Furthermore, the monastery's libraries hold a wealth of Buddhist scriptures, offering a treasure trove of wisdom for those seeking a deeper understanding of the Buddha's teachings.
Brahmavihara-Arama's dedication to spiritual education and community outreach extends beyond its walls. The monastery offers a variety of programs and events for both locals and tourists, including meditation classes, dharma talks, and cultural workshops. Its annual Buddhist New Year celebrations, known as Cap Go Meh, draw visitors from across the island to witness vibrant processions, traditional dances, and festive celebrations.
