"Brokeback Mountain" is a 2005 American romantic drama movie with Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal in the lead roles. It was directed by Ang Lee. The movie tells the tale of two young men named Ennis Del Mar and Jack Twist who fall in love while working as sheepherders in Wyoming in the 1960s. It is based on the 1997 short story of the same name by Annie Proulx.

Especially in a time and place where homosexuality was still heavily stigmatized, the movie examines the complicated and frequently taboo nature of same-sex relationships. Themes of masculinity, loneliness, and cultural constraints that may cause people to hide their genuine emotions are also explored.

Both Ledger and Gyllenhaal won praise from the critics for their performances, and Ledger even received a posthumous Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. The movie itself was very well-liked and won multiple awards, including the Golden Lion, the top prize at the Venice Film Festival, four Golden Globe Awards, and three Academy Awards.

Despite its popularity with critics and viewers alike, "Brokeback Mountain" continues to spark debate because of how it portrays same-sex relationships. The movie's influence on culture and contribution to the continuing discussion about LGBTQ+ representation in media, however, cannot be disputed.
